Grapette "Unwrapped" By Food Network
Nostalgic American Favorite To Be Featured October 8
Malvern, Ark. - The secret formula for the world's grapiest grape soda is still under tight wraps, but other delicious details about Grapette will soon be Unwrapped by the popular Food Network show. Once the most popular grape soda in the U.S., Grapette has been winning over new generations of thirsty fans since its reintroduction in 2004.
The Unwrapped episode featuring Grapette will premiere Monday, October 8 at 8 p.m. (CDT). The 'Grapeful' episode will showcase - you guessed it - grapey foods and drinks.
'The Unwrapped segment reveals how the mystical Grapette flavor is the same as it was when it was created in 1939 - even though we've modernized our production processes over the years,' says David Rice, Grapette International Vice President of Marketing. 'We hear from so many people who have fond memories of drinking Grapette. They say every sip takes them back in time.'
Former President Bill Clinton is one of those who says he loved drinking Grapette as he was growing up. Clinton has said that one of his favorite regular meals consisted of a chili-cheeseburger and an ice-cold bottle of Grapette.
Unwrapped is a weekly primetime series that "uncovers behind-the-scenes details on classic American food." Hosted by Marc Summers, each half-hour episode focuses "on a different tasty topic and reveals some of the products' most interesting and fun secrets along the way."
Earlier this year, an Unwrapped video production crew coordinated a day-long shoot at Grapette International, Inc., in Malvern, Arkansas. The shoot included a facility tour, a step-by-step demonstration of Grapette's production process, displays of historic photos and memorabilia, interviews, and a trip to see the final product on the shelves at a local Wal-Mart store. Another crew filmed Grapette cans being filled at a bottling plant in Fort Worth, Texas.
"It was a thrill to have Unwrapped here and watch them work," Rice says. "Our employees got a real kick out of seeing the lights and cameras in our building. Our folks were doing what they do every day, but it was a little different experience for all of us - being on camera."
Grapette and Orangette have been available exclusively at Wal-Mart stores nationwide since 2004.
About Grapette A true American success story, Grapette was introduced in Camden, Arkansas by B.T. Fooks in 1939 and became a national favorite by the mid-1950s with sales exceeding all other grape flavored soft drinks. Although distribution became limited in the U.S. with the consolidation of the soft drink industry, Grapette International continued production of its original formulas and focused on selling its products in Latin America, the Caribbean and Pacific Rim countries. However, the endearing "Grapette flavor" retained such a positive image that it was personally selected by Sam Walton to be sold in his stores. Grapette and Orangette were reintroduced exclusively at Wal-Mart stores across the country in 2004. For more information about Grapette, visit www.grapette.com.
